  History of Boyolali City 

According to the legend the name of Boyolali related to the legend of Ki Ageng Pandan Arang (Regent of Semarang on the XVI century). Ki Ageng Pandan Arang is better known as the Tumenggung Notoprojo predicted by Sunan Kalijogo replace sheikh Siti Jenar as Wali . By Sunan Kalijogo, Ki Ageng Pandan Arang is asked to go to Jabalakat mount in Tembayat (Klaten) to teach Islam Religion.

In his travel rom Semarang to Tembayat Ki Ageng encountered many obstacles and stumbling block as the test. While in a jungle, Ki Ageng walk far enough leave his wife and children, he was robbed by three men who thought he was a property of the mistaken presumption thats the place now known as SALATIGA.

The travel forwarded to some place where a lot of trees or bamboo, yellow bamboo Ampel, and thats place now known as Ampel the name of one of the district in Boyolali. In the journey through this far, Ki Ageng Pandan Arang leaft his children and wife so far. While wait his children and wife, Ki Ageng rest in a big stone wich is in the middle of a river. In his rest Ki Ageng say "BAYA WIS Lali Wong iki" which in English means "the people forget is'n it." From the word Baya Wis Lali became name of Boyolali.
